I have been thinking about this species of Dendrobium, my thought all along has been that on the pictures that I had seen that the shape of the flower was not a favorite, but seeing the close up that you posted this is definitely going on my wish list

    Harvey,
I got a very large older plant at my Orchid Club Auction several months ago, I see you have yours in S/H. How does it like it? Mine is in Lava Rocks and extremely top heavy. It has two new older stalks but no flower stems coming from them. It got knocked over and lost some of the leaves on one of the older stalks. There are also leafless stalks with black at the edges, I started another thread about the plant called "dendrobium Black Spots" and the pictures of the plant are there.
One of the other posts in this thread was that this was a fussy plant about being repotted.
So can you share with me you Midas touch culture that you have? Would you divide and repot mine? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Dede

No, it isn't actually in s/h. The only pot I had that this monster would fit in when I repotted it, was a large s/h container, but I drilled holes all over the bottom to make it be a regular bark, perlite, charcoal and coconut husk chunks culture.

I didn't do anything to baby it after a repot. I didn't see it as fussy from it either.

Mine was also very top heavy before the last repot (just after the last flowering). Another reason I chose the s/h pot was its nice, wide base for stability. Lots of light, any humidity you can give it (not a problem in NC) and watch for sunburn if you get it out in the sun.

that plant would take a seriously big greenhouse to hold it

And that could be the reason it might be up for sale in a couple of years.

I have 2 small seedlings of this. I know it will be a while before they bloom but I got them for almost nothing. Congrats, Harvey!!!

Harvey, what is your winter culture?
mine was about to make spikes , got the nods, but it did not pass that stage, new growth started to grow in the beginning of winter and now pretty much matured. I did not fertilized as they say it should be in rest.
So i wonder how do you grow yours (with details please ) ?
