    Default Dendrobium Spectabile orchid

I had mentioned in an earlier post about how big some dens can be. I was lamenting/bragging about the size of the one I bought from a seller in Hawaii thru a popular auction website.

It is close to, if not taller than 2 feet. Has a newly grown cane that was 2 feet tall even before it opened to reveal its leaves (in the picture it is the cane with the lightest green colored leaves). You also notice the spike with 6 unopened, but close buds.

This needs to be repotted badly. But that will wait until the blooming cycle has completed. I probably should wait till new growth starts.

I'll post the images of the open, cool looking flowers this dendrobium sports, I think, in less than a week.

Not my best photo but the plant is so top heavy, I was unable to get it to stand up where I wanted to image it. So I put it back in its spot in the living room.

Wow - good looking plant. Definately not a small one. Can't wait to see the pics of the flowers! Looks like a great price also! How long have you had it? Did it take time to acclimate? Thanks for sharing!

I was more than surprised when I first laid eyes on it. It immediately became my largest orchid. It arrived in early December. It seemed to acclimate faster than the other orchids that arrived with it. But it was already in an active growth cycle when it was shipped. The others did not appear that way. The others are now growing new roots. No new leaves on them yet.

Have you seen a picture of one of these blooms? I have heard them described as alien like. I have only seen pictures of the flower and I am psyched to see these open!

I hadn't seen these flowers before - but I just looked them up on google (https://www.google.com/search?noj=1&...93.2IGj48Uj8hU). All I can say is they are awesome!! Definately alien-like, but really beautiful. Congrats on a great plant! Might go on my want-list as well

No - that is a good size plant! I read one that someone put on that said theirs had over 190 flowers! Now there's something to look forward to!

Nice plant. The growers plants--especially his dens are always of nice (large size). Have bought several dens from him that have arrived at over 2 feet. He is a great grower/seller.

The first bud has fully opened. It is the one that is least visible due being close to a leave. I will hopefully have fully opened buds that are not hidden this afternoon and I will add photos as soon as I can.

I can tell you the color is a green flower with maroon markings. I can't wait to get a good view and great images of the flower!
