That is mother nature to attract flies for pollination.

    I understand.

Which came first? The orchid or the fly?

really interesting. i have a bulbo that should be stinky, it has not flowered yet. it is my first bulbo, but i am afraid it will become the first of many once i actually get it to bloom. they are very interesting to me, and the stinky part is not so terrible, as most don't bloom very long i think. i have several stapelia that stink of dead animal, but only flower for about 3 days. i think they are a very funny plant to grow, so i got the bulbo rothschildianum. the flowers on yours seem dark and mysterious....... imagine walking through the forest and smelling something awful, to track the scent down and find flowers????? weird, but really cool.

Well if it stinks then it is living up to its name.
