mounting on "fresh" wood?

So I have a project in mind for an Encyclia that I've had for years. I kept it potted in Cali, because the humidity was pretty low. Now that we've moved to Florida, I'd like to mount it. It's a "large" plant and buying driftwood is not an option. My idea is to texturize and layer untreated hardwood lumber using spacers. I see lots of orchids mounted onto weathered lumber. Will "fresh" non pressure-treated hardwood work? Any advice or concerns are appreciated! And if this works out, I'd like to document the process for others. TIA

Florida can be tough on wood, the sun and rain can rot or crack the wrong wood in no time and some woods I believe can still have resins in them, I believe pine is bad to use for that reason, all my mounts are on tree fern, cork or live trees. I have used the wooden cedar garden stakes you can get at a box store to stake some vandas in my garden and the roots love those, and they are cheap. good luck

I use Kwila decking only after the offcuts have spent at least a year outside in the weather.
It needs that to get most of the tannins out,then it is fine.And being decking it lasts quite a while.
