6 months ago, when I began my orchid journey in earnest, the start of my collection was crowded around my living room, west facing windows. Then I got a single T5 2' grow light and put it on the dining room table. This grow light is now on the top shelf, above the orchidarium, in my first mini-greenhouse (which gave me back my table, for now....). Yesterday I bought the 2 tube fixture on the bottom shelf. I have mixed and matched parts from 3 different mini-greenhouses to create the height I need.
Then I got my 4' x 4' grow area with a 4', 8 tube fixture. Recently added hooks from the ceiling and have 2 hanging in front of this east facing window. The mini-greenhouse that will go outside is seen in the background too.
My boss for the last 2 years, retired last week and he sold me his 4', 8 tube fixture. It now hangs in the garage for my cool loving orchids. There are a few under the lights now.
And lastly but first, is my living room. Due to the 4 image limit per post, I show the first half now. If a viewer posts a comment, I can then post the the pic of the other half of the living room. I have a total of 7 hooks, right now, in front of these windows. Room for one more by both windows.
Your grow areas look really good. So tidy
Thanks!
The other half of the living room.
Wow, look at those healthy looking plants!
very nice!! I bet watering must be a pain!
Another reason to keep my total near 100.
I water a lot. Perhaps only superficially but it seems to be working. I am able to do them in an hour.
I have mounted that get watered 2x a day. I have a couple of catts mounted that get watered 1x a day.
My paphs get water most every day. My phals get it daily too. All phals are in a bark mix (I have 2 that are in bloom that are still in sphag and will move out of it once finished flowering. I also have one in s/h).
My catts get watered every 2 or 3 days. Dendrobiums every other day.
And I mist when I can.
Thanks for sharing, you have responded to several of my questions which I appreciate very much. My collection is at 65, which I think I could take in 1-20 more and that be my cap. I saw that you have some mounted on blocks and those a hanging on the sides of other pots, that is clever, I just did my first mount on driftwood....
