could you please post a picture of the plant as well... it might assist in ID'ing the plant...

I'm not very good at these games... but I initially thought it could be a Dockrilla rather than a Dendrobium... good luck finding a name for it...

I agree with Tim that this is a Dockrillia orchid. Tim must know since these orchids are from his neck of the woods!!

Beautiful blooms, nevertheless! From the blooms I already have some ideas what it might be but in order to make the identification more certain, we need the picture of the plant and its leaves.

Hi there,
When we first looked at the blooms, Tim and I thought they look like a Dockrillia. However, the picture of the plant along with the spike looks like a dendrobium, deciduous type! That is why I hesitated to name it without seeing the whole plant!
Well, a plant looking like that, it is not a Dockrillia.
It is a Dendrobium species then! The problem with dendrobiums is that there are thousands of dendrobium species!!! And we are just as good as the information resources that are available to us. And none of the books/journals/information sources would give us a comprehensive listing of all dendrobium species!
At this point, it will be as far as we could go unless you supply us with more information like where you found this plant. With this, we can narrow it down to its natural habitat then at that point, we could improve the search. Thanks.

BTW, Tim, you hedged your bet between a Dendrobium and a Dockrillia and came out in favor of the later. But Dockrillia is also part of the Dendrobium alliance! So you are not too far off. In order to get the scientific name for the species, well, how many of us here are really trained botanists? So you did not do too shabby!

May b It could be "Dendrobium kratense Kerr" but not sure.

I did a google search and came across some pictures on a taiwanese website... it seems like a fairly variable species in terms of colour... but certainly the shape of the lip is similar... seems like you have a good lead there... now to just figure out if it is the same one... and I guess like Hoa said, if you know about the history of your plant... that might also give some indication of the name of the species...
