OMG...I went to cut off the last (17th) blooming spike from mine, and I see it has a new spike!!! That makes 18 since the end of summer.
I think mine will stop with the two spikes, it's only got 3 pbulbs, even though they are large. I rather hope it does, as I want to repot it when its done blooming, its really crammed into the S/H container I had for it and I need to find something bigger.
Carol, mine only started producing huge numbers of spikes when it had been "crammed" in its container for several years. I simply let it get more and more crowded, and it has rewarded me. I haven't changed its pot in at least 4 years, and I probably won't this year either. It scarcely has any medium left--it's all roots! I'm scared to do anything to it.
Well, I'll give it some room and let it get to be a big plant, then let it crowd up and start massive blooming.
At least this orchid won't totally sulk when you repot. I hate when a more sensitive orchid does that..................AL
I have also noticed "crammed" orchids do very well and seem to be happier.
I want to thank you all. I will remember that they like being crammed.
Does that go with S/H too?
