    Default Encyclia alata ailment

This plant was doing well outside under shaded morning and evening light. However, as the picture shows it has taken a turn for the worse. Not sure what to do with it. I have the option of growing in a heated greenhouse or under lights inside. Considering repotting as I figured it wouldn't hurt. Can anyone give me ideas on how to save it?Name: IMG_3464.jpg

Looks like it might need more humidity. It may be too dry.

    cheers,

How long have you had it in this location? It may have just taken time to show its unhappy in that location. I agree with Bruce, has humidity been a little lower than usual?

Yep does look dehydrated to me as well , may be worth trying an unslotted pot , with medium bark mix , water every 4 days or so.

The smaller growth in between the 2 pseudobulbs looks like it has black rot. If so, you need to act quickly to cut out any blackened tissue (cut beyond the black into healthy green). After cutting, keep dry for a few days & then carefully water only the roots. Black rot is aggressive - I hope your pllant recovers.

I removed the new growth and repotted. Placed in greenhouse which right now get some but not as much as summer humidity. Not familiar with black rot. What is the recommended treatment other than physical removal.

The most effective treatment is surgical strike and removal. There may be some other treatments but I have never found one that works as well as that.
