If I go to an orchid show I take 20 to 40 dollars with me and leave credit cards at home

Self control - that is when I only get one instead of three of the same thing.

I lost control this weekend and ended up with 7 new orchids. Most are minis.....so I feel, at least, like I am tapering off!

OK the orchids that sneaked their way into my car were:
    Mtssa Shelob
    L. Finckeniana 'George' HCC/AOS

I'm very pleased as the Finckeniana has three inflorescence with twenty blooms on each stem, the plant is about three feet tall and quite lovely. Only two blooms have started opening up on the bottom of one stem.

I didn't know that the Shelob was named for the Lord of the Rings spider, but it is a magnificent bloom. Name: shelob.jpg

I like the one that looks pink and white with the yellow lip (pic is kinda dark ). I have no authority to educate you on self control since I have none. If you earn your money you should be allowed to spend it on yourself (and in the unlikely case you get free money, well then share the wealth ).

Shelob is one of my favorite flowers. Unfortunately I killed mine. It needs more love than a Phal, more water and more humidity I think. My daughter's is thriving, it spent the summer on her sun porch with great humidity and regular watering. I may try again when I feel more secure that I can take care of it, but probably better to just not try. I have other things that distract me from orchid culture too often.

The only way I can control my "self control" is to not take any credit cards, checks and a limited amount of cash. If you don't have the money you can not buy. Then again after buying 3 yesterday and 6 on Thursday and already know I will be buying two or more the end of this next week, who cares about "self control," unfortunately most of the nurseries know me well enough to pay them later.
