Default Suitable orchids for outdoors in Sydney.

    Hi all,

I live in Sydney NSW and currently don't have a grow house as I am renting on a short term lease. I'm wondering what orchids would be best suited to be grown outdoors until I can build my grow house? (I have all the materials for a nice one to be built next year)

Do you already have the orchids or are you looking for suggestions for buying for the space?

I would say most of the orchids that fall under the " Cool " growing category. Sydney has warmer winter than we do in Auckland yet i am still able to grow outside in a protected enclosure ( no heating just protection from frost and wind ) , miltonia , oncidium , colmanara and cattleyas etc.. thats just to name a few. I would speak to your local orchid society if i was you and look for cool growing.

I do have some orchids, mainly dens, cymbs, phals and a zygo.
I do have a Howards dream that spends most of the time inside along with 2 vandas and a angraecum but they are giving me a little grief in the cold,
(I'll be putting up some photos in a new thread, I need some help with those guys but there is plenty of good information in other threads on hear to help with vandas so I'll read up first.)
I'm mainly looking for some nice size specimens that will be happy in pots scattered around the garden to bring some life into the yard.
Thanks for the replies guys, any other ideas would be great.
