    Default Nepenthes alata

I think this is the alata , I have 2 of them too dark to go and look at the tag . This plant is becoming a monster it has climbed to the roof of the green house .
I have read there are types that have buckets so large they are able to trap small mammals , Humm ....might make good squirrel traps

Gin, that thing is scary! I hope Louis doesn't see this post or he will want to grow those too! It is really colorful though.

    Cheers!

    Question

    Hi Gin,

What do you do with the pitcher once they dry out? cut them or let them be?

There are two different plants on your pic, I have the one you have on the left. when the pitchers dried out, someone told me to cut them, but since it has not grown any new pitchers, only tiny ones close the the medium? What am I doing wrong?
How much sun does it need? I read two different site about these beauties, once said it needed full sun, the other one said it needed partial shade? so what goes?

I have both kinds , they are in the greenhouse , and do not recieve direct sun more like partial sun , or bright light , they like rain water or Ro. and to be moist .
I read not to Fert. them but since there is nothing for them to eat I dilute the Orchid Fert. down and give them a shot of it about once a month .
I cut the buckets off when they dry out .
Don't ya just love some of the info. out there ,I went thru the same thing with mine . Hope this helps . Gin

I love them and I like the idea for squirrel traps. They are nothing more than rats with fuzzy tails.

Hear, Hear!! Anything that will control the squirrel population is A-Ok by me! The key question is, do you think well be able to lure the little buggers to it, or just wait and see if they go in?

Where do you get those guys Gin? pm me?
