O my.... that is a HUGE vanda. I'm thinking a hook in the ceiling???? I really don't know how to spike that thing. Is it falling over? You might have to use a couple different dowels or something long. I hope mine doesn't get that big!!!!

Greetings all,
I just purchased a rather large (6.5'+) Vanda (?) that is dire need of some sort of support system so it doesn't fall over. Unfortunately I don't have much head space (about 4-6") so anything I do can't raise it very much.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,
Nanci

just looking at the photo and I would say a hook scewed into the ceiling and another in the floor and have a rope running between the two with the plant tyied to this.
And maegg your plant will eventually get that tall
Why not cut it? I was reading you could put some moss or something around parts of the plant, get some roots to grow and then divide the plant. Then you get to have two or more vandas!!!
How about a tall piece of interesting wood branch or grapevine , stick the base of it in a container with cement in it , then tie the plant to it . Gin
Nanci, Since I live in CO too, I am curious to know if you are able to grow your vanda by window light only, or if you supplement. Will it go outside when it warms up?
Mehera
Mehera, right now I have the Vanda sitting in a west window with a north window approximately 3 feet away. I also have a plant light on the south wall approx. 3' away from the Vanda, which supplements light to my phals. I've only had the Vanda since Saturday so I'm really not sure if this is going to work or not. I discussed the situation with the people over at Fantasy Orchids where I purchased the plant (they are a wonderful source of info) and they belive this will work. Plant was orginally in the greenhouse in a west window.
I hope this helps. Where in Colorado are you?

Hi Nanci. I live in the mountains in Buena Vista. You have personal messages turned off, but if you want to connect with orchid lovers talking about Colorado growing issues, PM me. Regards,
