Of course, you need to see an established specimen plant with a lot of spikes, in say an 8 inch half-pot, to understand why I fell in love with it , but you can't buy plants like that - you have to start with a 2 bulb NFS seedling. I have bought several; like that, and grow them in different ways to see what they really need ; some say cool, some say intermediate, some s ay warm. And in a nearly terrestrials mix, or in plain bark, or whatever. Actually they do not seem to be fussy ; This one is being grown with my ordinary cymbidium hybrids , and this is the first flowering on a 3 or 4 bulb plant in a 4 inch pot.
Cool little bloom!
Well done
Is it the case with most cymbidiums ... they need to have enough bulbs before they will bloom? My Chinese Cym. sinense is producing its third bulb since I got it last year. Then it will have 5. I hope it will bloom someday.
I can see why it's a favorite! Lovely!
They did not do well for me (C.sinense) until someone pointed out that most of this section of cymbidium are warm growing. Not a problem for you, I imagine, but here in cool UK, the ordinary cool house temperature which suits so many orchids, just won't do. I shifted my survivors into the same extra heat spot where I grow catasetums, and now they grow...
Flowers? Oh, do they flower ? (Joke).
Very nice and colourful lip. Will, as you say, look gorgeous on a large blooming plant.

A fine species Geoff. When you look back thru history how often it appears in todays orchids & exactly what it has had a part in producing. I mention that because of the way the petals are in this flower.
