    Default Phalaenopsis Mannii

    Hi everyone,

I have recently take a Phalaenopsis Mannii. The seller tell me it's a plant that grow easily, not to hard for beginner (I am...) and that I just have to take care of my Mannii like a classic Phalaenopsis.
I read on internet this orchid need a little less luminosity than other Phal.
    Is it true ?
Do you have some advise for me ?

Oh,and is it normal that Mannii flowers smell like...bacon ??

I think it should be okay if you grow it like any other Phalaenopsis - bright place but no direct sunlight. IOSPE did said that "They like shady areas with high humidity..." >>IOSPE PHOTOS
When you water, make sure no water trapped in between the leaves, it could cause rot. About the scent, I cannot comment since I have never smelled one.
P/S: Be careful with seller, some of them are smooth talker and all they want to do is to sell the plants.

Phall mannii can get by with a bit less light than most Phalaenopsis but shouldn't NEED less light than most people provide to other Phals. It does tend to like a cooler drier winter period, not a full rest, and in native habitat that is the time of greatest light. Keep those things in mind, but for the most part treat it like other Phals and it should be fine.

It usually does have a scent, but I can't find any reference to bacon. Everyone's sense of smell is different, and every plant may have a unique scent. Any scent that might attract a pollinator isn't unbelievable, even if it isn't typical. You might find that it changes as the flower ages or at different times of day.

Note: Lower case m for mannii since it is a species.

As far as the smell, the only Phal. I know of that has a smoky fragrance that I have heard some people describe as like "bacon" is Phal. venosa. I have a venosa and to me it smells somewhat like charcoal briquettes.
