Default Spring Check In~

Hi all, it's been awhile since I last posted, but I just did a spring check in on all of my orchids and wanted some feedback I've had the six smaller orchids for about a year now, and the large one was a recent gift.

#1 - healthy root & leaf growth, still potted happily, recently finished winter rebloom

#2 - poor rescue orchid, definitely improved, leaf growth is good, still lacking in roots

#3 - happy & thriving, vigorous root growth, happy leaves, oldest baby leaves just started to yellow... thinking it's in need of repotting, but how big? it's in a 2.5in pot currently, and also just finished winter rebloom.
#4 - seemingly happy, good leaf growth, poor root growth... dead rooted and replaced medium less compacted, also sprinkled with cinnamon
#5 - few but firm leaves from slow but continuous growth, discovered an almost nonexistent root system... replaced medium significantly less compacted

# 6 - slightly larger than the others, very happy, bountiful leaves, healthy roots, only one not double potted; currently spiking
Just looking for general feedback-- comments, suggestions, etc I'm only 22 and don't have much of a growing community here.
Thanks

Looks fine to me. I think you have already know your watering schedule since you have grown them quite well after a year. But is the new leaf mechanically damaged or eaten by something in the first picture?

I am under the impression that cinnamon is too harsh for usage on roots. MAybe others will chime in, but be careful, as I understand it the cinnamon will desiccate the roots.

Most of them look great! Harvey is right about cinnamon on the roots though. Try to use it only on open cuts/wounds.

Azizan - mechanically damaged, they've been through a couples moves and pawed at by various kittens 🙄 Another has white paint on it from pumpkin painting last fall.

Harvey & Chris- thanks for the heads up, I'll rinse it off as much as possible. What would you reccomend to help rooting?

I like the moss as a potting medium (I dislike the wood chips), and I water with a spray bottle, into the medium and on the aerial roots.

Does the third orchid need to be repotted? If so, into what size pot? It's in a 2.5in currently.

    Thanks!

Oooppss I didn't saw 3,4,5 before. I agreed with them about the usage of cinnamon. Most of them are good but still watch out with your watering.

I repotted the third orchid this morning, decompacted the roots as best as I could and put it in a slightly larger pot with new growing medium.

The roots on the fourth were definitely negatively impactee by the cinnamon application, and the fifth little one lost another leaf today not yellowed or limp, it just fell off...

If you lost a leaf and it just fell off then it may have rotted at its base. Be careful not to let water sit where leaves meet or in the crown.
