Almost any mini Cattleya-Laelia hybrid with a lot of Brassavola nodosa in its breeding should do well in your climate Bc. Yellow Bird, Bl. Aurora are a couple.

Hello,
I wanted to ask y'all for your suggestions on other beginner-friendly orchids that aren't Phals. All I have are Phals but I think I'm ready to try expanding my collection to include a different genus.
What types of orchids did you find easy to care for when you started the hobby? I appreciate your input!

Recognizing that what's easy for one might be difficult for another, I suggest you consider paphiopedilums.
Concur with Ray. reach out to a orchid society/club in the vicinity and you might be able to find what other growers are growing in your area.
Some Paphs can bloom for months on end!
You might also think about Dendrobium.
The best two choices for growing orchids in Texas are the Phalaenopsis and the Dendrobium.
All my ex's come from Texas, and in my case that's true ... LOL!
The Texas weather to me is unpredictable. I got a phone call once from my daughter on a Thursday (when she lived there) asking me to come visit because the weather was gorgeous! I hopped on a Flight that Friday night and when I got there ... it was Freakin 28 degrees, and I had on a light suit! It was a sudden change in weather, and when she asked me where I wanted to go next .... "The Burlington Coat Factory". Was the only time I purchased a leather Jacket ... and was very expensive".
Anyone want to buy a lightly used Leather jacket? Sure don't need it here in Hawaii ... LOL!
Oh wait! Nevermind ... it's in a box in the attic but now smelly and moldy from the Hawaii weather. Aaaargh!
