So my hunch for the name of this hybrid is correct. But I still wonder where she got this plant? This hybrid was very popular many decades ago The semi alba cross used to be known as the bridal orchid! These days most you could find are those blue clones. Even that, they are not easy to come by either! Seedlings and seedlings are what you find!

This beauty is Lc Canhamiana (C mossiae x L purpurata), The parents are natives of Venezuela and Brazil. I picked it up off a table at the orchid show in Santa Barbara just because it had a sheath showing. It progressed very rapidly! I'm soooo delighted with it. ($7.50)

looks like I missed the boat on this guessing game...very nice plant and a great pickup! the purpurata influence is unmistakable from the narrowish petals (although I guess one could say tenebrosa although the colors favor purpurata). The color is outstanding for a Canhamiana, since dark magenta is not the typical color for either parent (although forms exist).

It is L purpurata x C. mossiae . C. mossiae is the national flower of Venezuela, I have had the great pleasore of seeing it in it's native country, growing wild.
