Default Dendrobium mobile - winter rest

    Dear fellow orchid lovers,

Hi, my name is Jacky and I'm from Vancouver Canada! First time posting, so hope this is in the right section. I'm a fairly novice orchid hobbyist, just about over a year now, and I'm a little lost on what I should do with my dendrobium nobiles. Currently they are both outside where they are exposed to cool night temperatures (10-15°C) and receive several hours of direct morning sun.

The dendrobium fizz has started to show two little bumps - not sure whether they are buds or keikis - is it possible to tell?

Then, the dendrobium prince, a larger seedling, has no apparent buds but has developed a small shoot at the base.

My question is whether I should take them instead now and gradually resume regularly watering. Here in Vancouver the weather is still not reliably warm yet.

Hi Jacky! Welcome from Ontario! Your plants look great! Unless the temps drop below 10c I would leave them outside until fall. They are well into their growth cycle now so should be watered and fertilized regularly until fall. The few hours of sun in the morning is good but no strong afternoon sun. You should do well with them in BC. Probably won't have to even water

Thank you for your kind welcomes. Rats, i swear it wasn't sideways on my phone, and oh dear the title had been auto corrected to dendrobium "mobile"! Is it possible to know whether that is a bud or keiki forming?

That is a new growth. I guess it would be termed a new pseudo bulb. My personnel opinion? All new growths on dendrobiums are keiki. Or they're all new pseudo bulbs. Guess it depends on how you look at it.
