Almost ready to bloom with three spikes this year! One of my favorites, and so dependable. I will post another picture when the flowers open.

It is growing mounted on bark, but because mounted orchids are too much maintenance for me I placed it inside the pot (mount and all) to minimize the dripping and to increase the moisture. There is some lava rock and course bark in the bottom of the pot. I water it once a week and give it a couple of months of no water at all in the winter. I always feel bad about the imposed drought, but it seems to be the right thing to do. The flowers last only for 2-3 weeks, but they are so bright and cheerful!
Enjoy!

Wow, that's lovely!
I think I couldn't grow this plant then... I am such a terrible waterer that i would not be able to with-hold water during the winter months...
so thanks for letting me enjoy these vicariously through you...
Very nice! Love the bright yellow centers. Thanks for sharing the photos and information!
Cheers!

Hi Ania,
What a lovely 'chid! Thanks for the photos! Your description almost makes me want more Dends (have to get the ones I have working first!)
Julie
I'm with you 100%! I have one of these plants and I just can't bring myself to not give it water during the winter. I think I did better this year but it still didn't work. I think I misted it too much. Mine's mounted so it dries out super fast. I feel so bad for it!Originally Posted by bench72
Ania, do you mist your plant during the winter at all or do you completely not give it any water at all?
I would really love to get mine to bloom!
Ptaszek,
None! no water at all from the beginning of Dec. to the end of Feb. You are suppose to wait with watering until the flower spikes appear, but I give in and start to mist it occasionally at the first sign of spring. By the end of March I always start thinking that maybe it will not flower this year and I start to water, and fertilize like the rest of the orchids. Then it decides to surprise me and puts on the show! I've had it for 6 years now and it has been very dependable this way.

Ps. Thank you everybody for your compliments
Your blooms are wonderful!! Don't you wish that they would last 3 months instead of 3 weeks?
