No doubt I am prejudiced, but I think this is a bit of a stunner.
First flowering seed (?) or tissue prop (?) plant, joined my collection last Spring. Not very big yet, but is sure to receive lots of TLC.
Question for any taxonomic pedants out there - "intermedia" in lower case is right , for a species ; what about Aquinii, or aquinii ? Is that a varietal name ? And Coerulea ? ?
I do have the full set of Withners books about cattleyas, but I must confess that researching these questions requires rather more energy than I can bring to the subject.
You will see signs of desiccation in the leaves - have realised that my humidification system needs attention - it had been switched off during the coldest days - we have had a hard winter here ; I have turned it on again, but it is really not quite up to the task in my large greenhouse. I have a new humidifier being delivered tomorrow, and I hope that when that together with my previous one are both running, the plants will plump up and perk up too, within few weeks.
A real stunner Geoff!
Very nice Geoff. Just acquired a large plant very similar to this. One flower coming, way out of season for here.
Great flower! I think both aquinii and coerulea, are lower case.
That one is a keeper for sure Geoff!
My intermedia is in bud about to open. It's label reads Cattleya intermedia v. orlata coerulea.
