My sick and dead Dendrobiums...

Ok I'll go first! Here first is the still alive spiking one. I think it is a last ditch effort.

Okay now here is the one that used to share the pot with the one above. It has recently been removed...note leaf that fell off as I took the picture! lol!

Not a great image, as it was so sunny I couldn't really see what I was doing. Oh well.

What is wrong with the one in the first pic? It looks fine to me.

I cleaned it up a bit. I had to remove two canes that lost their leaves, while I know this is normal for some dends, the leaves turned yellow with little brown spots all over them, looked like some fungal thing to me. Same as the one in the last pic. We'll see if it holds it together. That close up of the leaf, has a brownish splotch starting but I don't think you can see it.

Heather, if you cut that leaf below the splotch and cinammon the cut, the plant should be fine. It sure looks ok otherwise.

That bending and folding of Dend canes with leaves and canes all going yellow is classic "too much water, not enough light" for those. Good you repotted that first one.

Really!? I can understand the light as before it really got bad, it was in the western window upstairs, but I only watered once every 7-10 days - gave it about an hour soak and left it alone. Sometimes, because it was the only one up there, I'd let it go 10 days! Now it is on the deck and gets more light and same water. Maybe that is why the other plant still looks roughly ok.

What kind of medium was it potted in before? I ask because the pic of it looks like it had a huge root system at one point. Are those all dead?

The roots actually look ok. There were the two plants in the one pot in in LARGE coconut husk. It was a Trader Joe's purchase...another from my very new days...

Have you thrown it out yet? If the roots are still good, you might as well just clean out all that old stuff around them, pull off the dead / dying leaves, and pot the plant up. Leave it outside for the summer. That lead cane may still produce some new growth. It wouldn't hurt to try saving it, anyways. Sometimes, a good repotting will turn a sad orchid around. If by fall there's nothing new coming up, then trash it.
