    Default Cymbidium Help!

    Hello All!

Something has been going on with my Cymbidium (see pictures below). At first I thought It was water damage at the base of the leaves, but it has gotten worse. I changed all of my orchids from a general bark mix to semi-hydro in January of this year, though this issue began months before the media change. All plants except this one have been thriving in the new media. It has been in the same grow area as the other orchids for about a year and a half, and no others have been affected by whatever this is. New leaves continue to grow and do not appear to be affected while at the center of the plant. There seems to be a very fine white powder at the center of some of the leaves which can be easily dusted off (though I am certain it is NOT dust...makes me think fungus). Some of the leaves have begun to twist at the tips, but since this is my first and only cymbidium, I don't know what is/isn't normal. Any advice will be helpful. Please help me save my plant!

I guess there may be a way to save this guy, but if I had that much black fungal looking stuff going on, I would chalk it up to experience and toss it. Just my take. I don't have a ton of room and it would not be worth it to me to have that near my other plants. If I was not super attached, or it wasn't some rare plant, right in the bin. If it was just a spot or two, I would cut it off and try to save it, but this one I would let go. Once again, just my take on it. Others love to resuscitate orchids with issues and may have other suggestions for you. Perhaps cymbidiums are different. I don't grow them, so I'm definitely no expert on the subject. At the very least, quarantine it.
