Think about mounting such plants perhaps, if you have a spot you can keep them watered sufficiently.
I've heard people plant them "sideways" also so the older growths don't get buried...never tried that myself.
Laelia anceps mount (not my mount I bought this way) Second picture shows spike that I just noticed.
Ignore the dead Angraecum in the photo.
