Default Orchid Photography Book Seeks Submissions

Hi gang! I want to alert you to one of my new projects. I am compiling an orchid photography book. The book will be full color and be published in either hardback or soft cover editions. I created a website (Hard Steam Photography) with information about the publication, submission guidelines, and process. We will be taking submissions of not only photographs, but also poems and short musings centering on orchids. For more information on the book or to enter a submission, please click the link below or point your browser to http://www.hard-steam.com

I have also included a link on the lobby page of the RVO OrchidTalk forum for quick reference after this thread is no longer active. I have been busy submitting the page to search engines, but that always takes a little while to show significant results. I really hope many of the forum folks will participate since there are so many wonderful photographers here. If you know of someone who might be interested in participating, please feel free to pass on the link. The more submissions we get, the better the book will turn out.

    Thanks for your time.

    Cheers!

Well, the hard part is now done and the editing and compiling will not happen until the fall, so not too much stress there. I have actually been thinking/working on this idea and website for a couple of months. I am really excited about it. The big thing to do now is to get it listed in lots of places. I am hoping we get a ton of really great submissions. After that, I will work on the marketing and that is fun for me too.

If I don't stay busy, I feel like I am wasting my time. This project is something I have wanted to do for a long time so I decided to just give it a shot, do it to the best of my ability, and see what happens. I believe it has the potential to be very exciting!

    Thanks for looking!

    Cheers!

Would you mind if I emailed the link to the book site to the local societies in my area? It might be something that the members will like to try!

I just submitted a picture of my Laelia anceps... it's the only one I could think of that didn't have glare or anything else like that... but it isn't really a very good clone of it... too open and looks like a star... but if there's a space you need to fill up

also, if I posted anything on this forum, that may be worth using, then let this be my agreement to allow you to use those pictures.

    cheers,
    tim

Thanks Tim! I appreciate your submission of the Laelia anceps photo! As far as using images from the forum:

    1. The images uploaded to the RVO forum are very small in dpi (dots per inch), so they look good on the computer screen and load fast, but they usually are not large enough to print at high quality.

    2. Because the book is going to be published and sold, I have to have a user agreement that is signed through the HSP site to include the image/poem/text etc. in the publication so I have proof of submission for the publisher.

I hope you will submit as many files as you would like considered! Thanks so much for everyone's participation so far! You all

    Cheers!

aaaah ok, understand... well then, will start uploading... hmm... what sort of dpi do you need?

I think I only tend to use 72dpi's on my pics... you know crappy cam and can only hold 24 pics at a time... and only ten if i use any bigger dpi...

Thank you Jason! The file doesn't necessarily have to be an original file if it meets the size requirements. I hope you do find some or take some you would like to submit!

    Cheers!
