In fact it IS a multi-colored painted pine cone. Sometimes I just have too much time on my hands.

It's a great experiment, Nabakov, but I wonder if Catts are the best orchids to try it on. I've always heard that Catts do best in bark. (That's what I use, even though nearly everything else I have is in sphagnum.) You might at least want to include a bark-potted Catt to compare against. (If you don't have another Catt, it gives you an excuse to buy one!!!)

Thanks Julie. You might be right. I decided on Catts basically because I came across some little guys that were healthy and inexpensive, so I bought several at once (which I usually don't do....typically I limit myself to one orchid per outing). And you might be right, perhaps I will go buy just one more (she slaps the back of her hand). The one that is blooming is in bark....hmmmm....perhaps I should have noticed that before.
I love the idea of the experiment, though! What a great forum project. Are the Catts all crosses of the same genera? Some of the intergenerics (that is, Catt intergenerics) have different growth habits.
Julie
All three of these guys were labeled Potinara Burana Beauty. Hopefully there is truth in the labeling. I just went and purchased one more which I will pot in bark. I need a bigger window.
Yeah...I need a bigger house!
Very cool you have all the same cross. That will make for a much tighter experiment!
Good one!
Julie
And Burana Beauty is a very hardy little catt...
i think i need a bigger boat.
Here's a better picture of my Catt bloom. And in the second pic....is that a bud beginning to emmerge? BTW, thanks for all the feedback on my experiment. I'm very excited to see the results!
Cat (that's my name, "Cat"...not to be confused with "Catt")
You live on a boat? Power or sail? (or is it a "house" boat" ?) On the Delaware?Originally Posted by wogga
