I like both the coloring and the shape of those Geoff.
I also find different colored backgrounds allow you to see different things.
In the black background the shadows get muted so you see a sharper looking image in my eye but the light background seems to really emphasize the plant structure better.
    Who knows?

Nice, big floofy blooms, Geoff! I agree with Leigh, the different backgrounds bring out different points of interest. I lately have enjoyed photographing the plants against the foliage of other orchids in their grow space. I like the texture in the background of the image and try to - ever so slightly - blur the background and keep the blooms as sharp as possible.

    cheers,
    BD

Yes Bruce, a bit of variation is good ; for many years I used to give talks to orchid Societies - I went to most in England at one time or another ( gave that up 10 years ago, when my wife began to have health problems ) and usually showed upwards of 100-150 images on the screen whilst talking for an hour or so. I found it good to switch between different coloured plain backgrounds, shots taken in the growing space, and - where possible- actual habitat shots.

Default So good to see everyone has been here all along while I've been gone...

I think the best Christmas present I've received so far has been logging in to OT to find that you're still here and better than ever, Geoff!!! Happy Christmas! I shall attempt to post some of my shots of various orchids - both mine and Marie Selby's - at some point, when I can recall how to post a photo.

In the meantime, carry on! Good show!

Hello Maura and a belated Merry Christmas! So very glad to see your post once again. I too have been absent from OTF for a while - have been busy with a new hobby and neglected my orchids.
