My orchids are totally neglected now, since I can't leave my wife's side for more than minutes ( without her becoming distressed) except when the various nurses pay their thrice daily visits. However she is now very heavily sedated and I did spend 15 minutes spraying everything from a hosepipe, and gathering a few plants for photography. They say it won't be long now - days only. When I couldn't sleep I started surfing the web looking for solo holidays - then went back to bed feeling guilty for jumping the gun....
So this cattleya had flowered without benefit of being tied up , leading to flowers not well positioned - in fact to get a decent shot of a single flower, I had to paint out the other flower parts which obscured and confused ; seems my photoshoppery expertise has not been entirely lost.
Another one of these cattleyas where it is difficult to get the true colour in a digital image for the margin of the lip is a truly wonderful darkish purple, and the petals etc are a lovely light blue. The pics don't do it justice. A meristem hybrid to be truly recommended !
Thank you for sharing these beautiful blooms, Geoff. I can only imagine how tough your role is in supporting your spouse though this transition. I hope you will be sure to take care of yourself as well. As for this bloom, the lip is fantastic. I love the deep, dark, purple and the lighter fringe ruffling. It is so elegant.
cheers,
BD
