I have seen this with a few dendrobiums. Keikis which flower almost as soon as they start. One sticks in my mind because it does it so often - a nobile type hybrid with yellow flowers "Song Bird". They don't seem to be very useful, in that because they are in the wrong place they don't add much to the overall flowers, and they don't seem to be very good to take off and grow on as new plants.
Hmm...let me observe whether this keiki will die off or will grow after it finished blooming.
