Hello, all. I am new to the list and hoping that I was correct in identifying this plant. My wife brought this home from work and wants to "fix" it. It looks like an orchid to me but it seems so large. Overall the thing ha spikes that are about 30" long. The leaves are easily 10-12" long. There are no blooms present. The roots seem firm, not squishy...I'm hoping they're ok. With the research I've done I thought it might be a Phalaenopsis of some sort. It obviously needs some trimming and re-potting. The guides on the website seem easy enough to follow. My main questions are, aside from "What is it?", should I trim and re pot in the same pot or does it need a larger pot? Can it even be saved? how short should I trim the spikes? I assume that the ugly clear plastic pot normally gets placed inside another fancy pot for looks? Sorry for the sideways pics. I'll change the orientation next time.
