Last Saturday at Bournemouth, my plant "wiped the board" with best in class, best hybrid in show, and best in show... I find it a bit embarassing to collect a whole row of silver cups, all for one plant, but it is the way the system worked.
Eight spikes ( as shown)- had 9 at an earlier stage, but I was a bit clumsy, although it is very difficult with a plant too heavy to hang up, with spikes extending lower than the bottom of the pot, and with spikes all the way round - one or other is always likely to catch on something when you handle it.
In general my plants are not in good shape ; they were neglected for much of last year, culminating in a period during my wife's final illness, when they were not looked at for weeks on end. But the cymbidiums came through better than most because they were on an automatic drip system, and as long as I filled up the supply tank every month or so - which I sometimes did, they got watered. They didn't get tied up, or spaced out to allow spikes to develop, but some came through. Whatever, all's well that ends will, as they say.
Personally I think I ought to get a medal just for getting the plant to the show bench at all - just how can you do it ? My efforts at constructing a suitable carrier came to nought when the plant fell out of the carrier when I had to swerve to avoid a cat running across the road...
Wow. Congratulations. She is beautiful.
