One of the reed-stem Epidendrums. Has been in my collection for maybe 4 or 5 years now, and did not do well at first , making growths like a thin pencil only 12 or 15 inches high. But last year it decided that since it is not going back to Ecuador real soon, it had better make the most of it, and start growing properly, and I have a cane like a thick pencil some 3 feet or a metre high, with the spike extending another foot or even 18 inches beyond that.
Flowers a litle better than you can see here - i brought the plant into the house for photography, and it blew over whilst I was opening the door, and lost one of its lower branches of flowers. The flowers are individually not very big of course, 12mm natural spread, at a guess.
The new growth following on behind is perhaps a little stronger yet, so maybe the next flowers too. Here's crossing fingers.
