A Mystery

So, an old friend came to town. We spent a day dropping in on nurseries and garden shops. Eventually I decided to take him to my secret orchid shop. As soon as I walked in I saw this gorgeous plant. I've never seen anything like it in real life, though I'm sure I've seen a picture of a simalar orchid. The owner had two of these, and I bounced back and forth so much between the two, I forgot to grab the label. It's still sitting in the other plant. This has to be a Vanda, based on the leaves. But i've never seen a Vanda potted in this medium (looks like moss and maybe coconut husks). The blooms have the feeling of one of those dancing oncidiums (dancing ladies?) but then they have the long, peculiar "tail" shooting out of the bottom. Hopefully you can make this out in the pictures. It is the weirdest thing. I love it. So, if anyone can tell me the name of this orchid or give any care tips, that would be lovely. She has two spikes in bloom and a third spike just developing. I have her in a south-facing window with filtered light.

Catherine - that is a vandaceous plant, but it is not a vanda. the nectaral reminds me of Angraecum sesquipedale, but the lip is all wrong. Its some kind of angraecum or angraecoid, of that much i am confident.

I'm sure it's angraecum longiscott .There are lots of these with different names after the longiscott.Mine happens to be 'Lea'.They all look the same--white with long nectaries.They are reliable bloomers usually with a number of spikes.Hope this helps you

Forgot to add that I grow mine intermediate with good light.Mine is in bloom now but just about done

A bark mix.

It could also be Angcm Longiscott, which is scottianum x superbum.

The culture should be the same, however. My Angaecum is growing like a weed in sphag and a clay pot. Good light, int temps.

Definetly and Angi. what species I don't know, but it looks like others know.
