OH my! I just spit fritos all over the computer! Note to self: don't eat at the computer. Diane, you ain't right either!

New to orchid growing, my vote went to disease. Have been battling a case of p bulb rot - my first real challenge. So awfully sad to see a beautiful plant fade and not be able to help it more. She's still hanging on, though, in spite of my superior lack of expertise.

Disease control cuase I know there is basically nothing I can do about it. Everything else is fun, including killing insects with cool chemicals !

I hate using chemicals in the house except fertilizer.

Now that this thread has aged a bit, and I can see that quite a few agree with me, I will confess that it is watering that I dislike. Not fond of spraying chemicals and all those other choices either, but watering is like doing laundry--there is always more, and it never stops. I think if I could grow outside or in a greenhouse, and didn't have to haul everything to the sink, it might be different.

It still takes lots of time to water -- even in a green house. With busy schedules, it seems like we water and then turn around and it is time to do it again. The best part is that orchids are fairly forgiving (at least the ones in our GH.) They sometimes seem to thrive even with neglect. Thank heavens something just wants to survive without a whole heck of a lot of attention.

    Cheers!

    Default Hmmmm...

I don't really have a least favorite orchid chore. As I only have the one, and it has yet to bloom (bought it as a sprout) my chore list is relatively short. If I had to pick one, it would be treating a fungus/pest infestation, but only because it would mean my poor orchid caught something nasty.

For the "chids" it's all a labor of love. I guess it would be pest control for me as well.

My least favorite chore is paying for the orchid related expenses, which involves working to earn a paycheck.
