In the wild...

I have gone on a few expeditions to try find some blooming flowers in the wild but have so far been unsucessful

Would love to see some pictures people have taken etc

Anyone in Auckland (NZ) interested in going for an epic bushwalk sometime to find some beauties growing in nature please let me know

Yeah I went to Waitakeres first time I went looking, amazing place there! Can get lost wondering for hours ^.^

If I remember correctly there are something like 43 species up there that are easy to spot

Really?? Armstrong? We used to go there all the time. My parents still visit there frequently. Was it along one of the marked trails or were you wandering around the countryside?

The only shooting in the woods around here is at things that move and go bump in the night. Shame on him for shooting the woods, they have feelings too, you know!!!!!

Cool, where are they from around there. I grew up in Petaluma and lived and worked in Santa Rosa a couple of times. We moved here from Middletown, in Lake County.

The orchid was right there next to a split rail fence post next to a main trail. I was amazed. I found it on the way back to the car to get a fresh battery for the camera: a flash of purple out of the corner of my eye as I rushed down the trail. The whole way to the car and back I was thinking these horrible thoughts that I would never find it again. Then, what if someone PICKS it while I am away!!!

While I was down on all fours and my belly taking the shot (forgot the tripod in my rush) a young person with his grandpa saw me and says, "Look, grandpa, it looks like there is a dead person on the trail ahead!" hehe I got a chance to talk to them about the orchid and how significant it was to me and the area. They seemed really interested.

My folks live in Oakmont. I grew up on the peninsula and we went to the redwoods (the real ones, not Mt. Tam) every year.
