Rare and expensive huh? Mind sharing what they were?

The spathe flowers are really unusual. We have elephant ears growing in our yard; I never knew they bloomed before! Is monstera part of this family? We brought home a piece from the Keys (another midnight ride) and planted it next to an oak tree. Thankfully it never gets more that a few feet high and then dies back each winter; they cover the tree and have two foot leaves in the Keys!
Traveling to Tuscaloosa, AL last spring we crossed a brook with golden club growing. On the way home my sweet husband stopped the RV on the side of the highway so I could scamper down the bank and get these pictures.

Beautiful Golden Club!! A nice example of an Aroid that has no obvious spathe. Not sure if it has a spathe!
Yes Monstera is a member of the Genus. Isn't that cool!
I just bought the book "AROIDS Plants of the Arum Family second edition" by Deni Brown. Looks good, but I haven't read it yet.
Anyway, here is a good genus for you gardeners out there:

Really needed another category for voting -- perhaps "Not insanely crazy over them but do like them"
I like some of them and have a few but don't consider myself a collector [many are waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too big & there are a number of them that I simply don't care for]. A gentleman I traded some orchids w/ sent me a long some sort of mini-philo but didn't know what its name was nor did anyone I asked.

I have a couple peace lilies, and I adore calla lilies. They were the flower I used at my wedding!

Love Alocasias and Elephant ears. In my nursery we actually carry Alocasias, Anthuriums, and Aglaonemas. One thing I love about the Anth. and Ags. are that they are a highly persistant plant when it comes to survival. What drew me to the Alocasias (other than their elegant appearance) is how backwards they are from most plants in that they don't require alot of care and they grow taller when not well lit.
