    Smile Simple medium

Come back from a long trip to my sweet home town, all orchids are growing, blooming, spiking.

Simple medium (only 1.54 g/l fertilizer, 20 g/l sugar, with/without 1 g/l charcoal) work beautiful with phalaenopsis seeds

    Tiny orchid plants keep growing:

    Flowers blooming:

Colors of seedlings are: red, pink and white (see flowers pictures above: first flower: phal. Sus D'amour, second: phal. Lavender, and fourth: den. noid). I polinated, got pods and seed sowing from them.

Congrats on the flasks! What's the time frame between pictures? How long from first to last on those seedlings? They're looking very happy - congrats!

    Hi Dawn Green,
    I use
    1.54gram/liter 20-10-20 fertilizer,
    20 gram/liter sugar,
    1 gram/liter charcoal,
    9 gram/liter agar.
You measure the above substances as formula, add water to have a liter of solution; stir and heat to dissolve them; pour into flasks. I only try with 2 phals and 1 den. I never try aerides so I cannot say but I believe it works. Good luck.

Did you just sow them onto the medium or did you use any specific laboratory equipment?

I want to try to sow some seeds but don't really care for going through the lab process nor about the success of the sowing as I just want to try some of it out. If they germinate okay if not so be it. I figure trying to sow them in flasks is better than just on sphag.

Without the "lab process" the cultures won't be sterile and the seeds will be over taken by the mold that will grow on the agar and sugar mixture. You may have some sucess with mixture of damp moss and some of the medium from the mother plant. If the beneficial fungus has colonized the mother plant medium you may get a little germination. This is like the process used before the sterile flasking proceedures were developed.
