Beautiful! I really like the scent but I've read enough about the conditions they like not to even attempt growing them. Today Mr E took me to a garden centre that sells orchids and he loved Miltoniopsis but I had to tell him not to bother. We left with a paph (actually two different paphs in one pot) and a Ododnt of some sort. I think I might be turing him into an orchid person.

All might not be lost for the pansy orchid Elena - I have one growing on my kitchen windowsill from last year, and so far it seems to be going well. Of course, whether or not it reblooms is another question.

We have a funky weather station thing at home in the kitchen for indoors and out, and generally the humidity in the kitchen is about 50%. Maybe it's not such a bad thing that Tom keeps leaving a washing up bowl full of water in the sink!

How accurate color-wise is that pic, Lynda? That is a rather bizarre color combo.

There are several miltonia hybrids tend to have almost dayglow colors. I do find them very beautiful as well. Lynda's plant is lovely..

Miltonias come from lower elevations in Brazil. Miltoniopsis come from high cloud forests in Venezuela and surrounding countries. Have you ever seen pictures of a high elevation cloud forest?

I remember being very impressed in the past when you mentioned having one of them growing happily in your home. I really don't think there's a spot in our flat where it's bright, cool and humid enough for them so I'll just have to enjoy other people's pictures for now. Until I have a greenhouse, maybe *dreaming*

yes,i googled a lot about this a few weeks ago. those pansy flowers Colombian/venezuelan Miltoniopsis die in the heat. The brazilian miltonia hybrids like those Miltassia, are supposed to resist up to 90F

I think it is going to get moved to the bathroom soon, as the kitchen is getting a bit hot in the afternoon. Certainly when I got back from work it was very stuffy in there.
