I am patiently waiting for the stanhopea bloom but I am getting excited, as this is the first bloom for me on this plant.

Oh, Bruce is right! I was just going to say that. Photograph it quickly. Some Stanhopea flowers only last a day or two. You're best with several shots if you don't know how long they'll be in bloom.
Rule of thumb: the quicker the spike emerges and sets to bloom, the shorter the blooming period. The effort the plant exerts to push out a spike in a period of days isn't sustainable. So the flowers won't last long. It's the slow and steady genera and species that can maintain a flower for months, or free-blooming throughout the year.
