Regular phals & mini phals

I first started - yes, it's actually become collecting, orchids after being attracted to mini phals. My first had a footprint of about 5" and tiny flowers. Aha, I thought, here is a plant that won't take up too much space in my houseplant collection, perhaps I can squeeze in one or two.

But after seeing (and buying) mini phals from various growers, each one I've seen has larger and larger leaves until the leaves resemble ones on a regular-sized phal and only the flowers are smaller.

Is this the only difference - the flower size - between mini and regular-sized phals?

The main difference is size, however, the size difference is due to different species in the background. The minis tend to have Phal. equestris and sometimes other miniature species in the background that give the small size and large numbers of flowers.

Thanks Susan. I started with minis because of space restrictions but some of the minis are almost as large as the regular sized phals. My baby Cattleyas are supposedly mini too but adult minis I've seen are much larger than I expected too. Oh well, we'll just have to built an addition onto the house, or a greenhouse at least. (-:

Well, in the south there is also the lathe house...very pretty too. lol But greenhouses are nice...and porches...windowsills...extra shelving...
