Leave spike attached for energy absorbtion?

I've read somewhere that a grower leave the spike on their Phals not for rebloom but to allow some energy to be taken back into the plant. Is this a myth or do people actually do it? So would you cut the spike off if a new one develops and there are no secondary blooms of the old spike?

Yes it is true, plants do re-absorb essential nutrients from inflorescences after flowers have faded away, its a matter of choice, if you are ok with bare stems without flowers hanging around then go ahead and let it die back naturally. But most of the time a secondary spike may start.
