Dendrobium Lindleyi when to repot

I recently purchased a Dendrobium Lindleyi ---- Vendor information removed - see FAQs on Posting ----. All of the plants looked great. I have attached a picture of the Lindleyi, I know it needs a hard winter rest where I stop watering and fertilizing. When should I repot? It hurts me to see all of the bulbs jumbled up in that little 2" basket with bulbs poking out the side. There is no where for new growth.

I don't give lindleyi as hard a rest as some of the other Den. species. They do like to be a bit root bound. You're picture didn't post so try again.

It is a species just loves to clump and grows around. Suggest you wait to repot. Keep it dry and higher light and it should bloom in spring

Will do. I have it hanging outside to get plenty of sunshine.

The ideal time to repot any orchid is a day before new roots appear, so that they can enter fresh compost, and so that there is no risk of them being damaged by the repotting, which is actually inevitable , however careful you are. Of course that timing is impossible, but be on the lookout for green leaf tips, that will tell you it is getting imminent. But I agreeentirely about keeping this species root bound and overcrowded. It is the only way you will get to see flowers at all.

Not sure I understand. It is in a basket with its roots hanging out, it is more like bulb bound. Is that sufficient for overcrowding?

If the plant seems to be in a pot or basket or whatever which is too small, that is called root bound.

Thank you everyone for all of the good information. I have just marked my one year anniversary with orchids. I have learned so much this last year but I have so much more to learn and I appreciate your help with that
