Ok, so on Wednesday, the Waikato orchid Society held its monthly day meeting-first one i have ever been to! Im always at the night meetings. But seeing as it is school holidays, i thought "what the heck" and went for it. And boy, was it nice! although the weather was a dampener, it was still good fun. Unfortunatly, this particular members ' house we went to was way out of town, and she also only has 10 or 11 orchids. But i suppose, you dont need to have a 3000 strong collection to join an OS!
Here are some of the plants, most of them i can name, but a few are without their latin names.
Heres one: The Ghost Tree or Handkercheif Tree, Davidia involucrata-looks really eerie in the night with a slight breeze and the moon shining on it apparently. This is of the family Nyssaceae, but some give it its own family, Davidiaceae
