Hi Amey, nice plant. In which part of India is your Aerides growing? Do you know a source, where I could buy one?
Stunning photography of beautiful orchids. You are so lucky to have two of these.

Thanks all for appreciating one of my native orchid.
Bruce I have 15 of them in my greenhouse here in Pune and more than 250 at my farmhouse and resort at Varasgaon dam back waters. I have mounted them on almost all big trees out of the reach of the people.
Actually this orchid is naturally found in the Sahyadri mountain ranges where my farmhouse is located, it grows on many old and dead trees over there. I once collected about 20 of these orchids from one such tree which had fallen after a strong monsoon deluge, much to the amusement of my servants and the local people from the village passing by. Now when people cut these trees which are laden with these orchids, they bring the orchid carrying branches to my farmhouse, sometimes they even leave it anonymously at the gates. So I ended up with 250 + of these beauties.
Aerides maculosum grow throughout the western ghats in forests of low and high elevations. Mine are from the Sahyadri ranges in Maharashtra. I do not know of a nursery which could provide you with these, there are very few nurseries that export plant material from India, also the customs is very strict about any plant material brought in and sent out from India.
