Believe me Phillip there are plenty of orchid murders out there, though most of it is manslaughter (or the orchid equivalent- orchiicide). Death by drowning is very common. What you did is a mere mutilation and no plastic surgery is required. Take good care of the victim and Maura. I am sure they will forgive and forget and hopefully so will you. AL

The victim is hanging on by a thread and if you have a good imagination is even starting to show signs of bud thickening. The victim is being taken good care of, Maura has forgiven me, it's just me now that I am left to deal with. Never committed orchicide until now and it had to be the favorite one. Cut the spike off. You are stressing the plant. Rest assured that many an experienced grower has killed a flower of snapped a spike by mistake.
