    Talking Vanda hybrid

    V. miniata x Van. Lou Sneary

A surprise spike. It is very short and very near to the crown. The lip colour is special to me, I would describe the colour as purple mixed with orange. Petals and sepals are not completely pale yellow, there are slight pale purple at the edge. Slightly fragrant, if more flower open maybe the fragrant will be stronger. However, I have 1% doubt of one of the parent.

Thank you Ray. I wouldn't realize it if you didn't tell me. To my surprise, it is an old hybrid! But I think mine is a remake using different parent or probably a reciprocal cross.

In fact those pictures online are very much different from mine. For example > http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...ill-thoms.html

The flowers have long spurs and narrow lips. But for mine - spur and lip most probably taking after Rhynchostylis coelestis. Will update once they open more.

If kept in growing conditions, the flower should continue to grow and change colour for at least several days after first opening. So you may not know the "true" colour yet.
My "If" is based on experience of "just taking the plant into the house, so as to see and enjoy it" which usually stopped the flowers from growing so they never reached their full size or proper colour. Which I suspect is the case here . I shall look forward to seeing it when it has.

Your prediction is correct. I do observe the colour change but only from pale yellow to brighter yellow.

    Smile Update

Not the correct colour but the colour did become more intense.

I noticed that the title was changed from Van. to Vanda. Just want to point out that V. is the abbreviation for Vanda, while Van. is the abbreviation for Vandachostylis (Vanda X Rhynchostylis). I'm just too lazy to write the full thing.
