Cymbidium sinense 'Yakushima'

I haven't had this one long enough to comment but don't plan on putting it outside. I have a south exposure so I think light will be plenty, and sinense is actually one of the warmer-growing Chinese cyms (so I don't think temp needs to be that low). my ensifolium grows and blooms on the windowsill without going outside.

Ron, I got this pot from a recent trip to Taiwan. no frills, just a standard clay pot, but I was sold on these pots ever since I moved my ensi from s/h to this pot and got 5 spikes within 3 months. dirt cheap but heavy to lug back.

Fren, I'm just starting up a Chinese cym collection so I would be ill-advised to answer any foliage questions. All I can say is maybe after you bloom it we can try to name it?

I like the gracefulness of this one, and of course its leaves! The pot matches the blooms well.

Do you know how to tell ensifolium apart from sinense with its foliage? I have a named variegated variety of a cymbidium that isn't popular, but without a species name. The leaves the broader than my ensifolium but so I'm thinking sinense, but I am not sure.

Fren do you have the varietal name???

Jason, I didn't catch that you had it in S/H. I have mine in Phrag mix. Next time I am in Chinatown, I am going to search for a few pots. I saw some in Chinatown while in Montreal but didn't pick one up.

Ron, it is 银边素心兰 which translates to "White Edge Plain Flower". A friend divided it, said it was rare, but provided no photo of the bloom. But the bloom will be alba, I don't know if that makes it more difficult to ID. The variegation is nice, it has a clear white edge. (It better not be one of those strange peloric ones lol) The plant size is similar to ensifolium but the leaf is broader

ron, I used to have the ensifolium in s/h but after moving it to a proper chinese cym pot, I've been using a mix similar to that for my catts--about half & half med CHC and s/h pellets, and a little charcoal mixed in.

It is beautiful, but its a shame there isn't much fragrance since sinense are supposedly spectacularly fragrant. At least it is beautiful.
