I went for a walk in the forest today ( The New Forest - new when William the Conqueror claimed it as a Royal hunting preserve in the year 1086...) - its on my doorstep, where I live. I picked up a few pieces of branch with lichen on , thought they would make good mounts for say the smaller cattleya species, or maybe the smaller ascocentrums. The problem is that the wood is presumably soft or rotten enough for the branch to have broken off in the last storm, and break into pieces when it hit the ground , so it won't last for ever - but orchids do look nice on such mounts.
The pieces are about one to one and a half inch diameter.
