Hello! This is my first post here. I am from Scotland, and I apologise for the wordiness here.
My mother sent me this orchid in memory of my father just over a week ago, and I don't feel it is doing very well. Because of what it symbolises, I really want to save it. It's my first orchid. It came from what looks like a good orchid grower, and it looked healthy when I got it. It has now lost a large healthy leaf, a smaller is dropping, and I think another one or two are yellowing. The roots in the pot look healthy, I believe, but the aerial roots may be dying back. I'm not sure. I know not to water it until the roots in the pots look dry (I read they should look silver?), and to let it drain completely. I also know that the leaves should not get wet. I have moved it to a bright space for now so I can show pictures here, but it is normally in a room that gets its light by reflecting off the building across from me. It is at its brightest for around two hours, I think, but gets gentle light after that. That's the closest I could come up with for filtered light. The temperature ranges from (an estimated) 16 at night to 22 C in the day. If any more pictures are needed to show why I think it isn't too happy, please let me know.
