Hi All,

I have 3 questions

How do you keep the leaves clean from water spots? Look like calcium or hard water deposits.

See the red circle in the picture? What's that on my Vanda?

Look at the brown roots. Should those be removed?

The green thing in the red circle is a new root tip.

Normally I would say remove the brown roots but since I don't grow vandas, again, it might be best to wait for someone else to comment on that.

That root showed up overnight and took out that small leaf.

Spots: milk or water with lemon juice. I think the experts here like milk best??

For the spots: I use Sunoil (Sun spray ultra-fine year-round pesticidal oil) mixed with water. It not only protects plants from bugs, it makes the leaves shiny and clean.



That nub is, as Paul said, a new root.

I would not remove any roots that are not squishy. The vanda is using them as support.

My vote for cleaning is lemon juice or weak white vinegar, then rinse. I soak a paper towel and wash my phal leaves which are notorious for water spots and because they are wide they look nasty and I like to keep a clean house, so there!

Geez, so now I have to dust the orchids off too?? Dang, I just got the furniture swept off today! Now I have to do plants too?? Noone told me this....gotta get a maid for sure now!

Connie, Don't think of it as "dust". Think of it as organic and non-organic nano like particles settling on leaf and root surfaces and providing micronutrients. If you "dust", you might be removing valuble materials necessary for the health and well-being of the plant owner!
