Hi Roy.
What is your screen resolution set to on your monitor? OrchidTalk is optimized for a screen resolution of 1280 x 768 but should be able to be viewed 1280 x 600 and up without scrolling. Very old monitors that are set to 800 x 600 would require much scrolling to see the elements. I use a 'fluid style' in the design and it should fill the space on your screen. The first column on the home page (with the slide show currently) is 430 pixels wide and fixed. The second column is fluid and will adjust to your screen size. The third column (on the right) is fixed at 175 pixels.
I made some screen captures to see if I can understand better the issue you are having.
1st is the home page (Lobby) with me logged into the forum (FireFox Browser)
Next, this is the main forum page with me logged into the forum (FireFox Browser)
This third photo shows the home page (Lobby) without being logged into the forum using Internet Explorer.
Finally, this is a photo of inside the photo section without being logged into the forum. This was in Internet Explorer as well.
I am not sure about the large blank space you mention. A hard refresh should force a reload of all of the elements. Hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard and click on the REFRESH button in your browser. If that still is not fixing the problem, then send me a pm and we can work on it together and see if we can get it working like it should for you.
I am sorry about that, Richard. I removed the second login box from the home page (lobby) or 'root' page and it had the xhtml code for the drop downs under Community, Search, and Quick Links. It will take me awhile to get that working because I will have to figure out how to edit the header to include those elements without messing up the other pages where they still work. Thanks for pointing it out. I thought I tested everything, but it is really easy to miss things.
Thanks to everyone for your patience and good words as we model our software to improve this site.
Cheers,

I really like the changes ! All is well it was off the screen it is a new monitor but setting did not match the 1280 x 768 .. Thanks looks great ! Gin
Bruce, this is wonderful. It's just so easy to find anything I'm looking for now!! I too had the issues with having to scroll, but thanks to your instructions, I have reset my monitor and now don't need to scroll at all to see the home page!!

Hey BD, I am pretty sure I know what Roy is talking about. It is an issue I see on IE6 when viewing the forum. Once logged in and viewing the orchid talk forum there is a large gap on the screen like this:
It's hard to see but on the bottom of the screen it says "Done, but with errors on page". You won't see this issue on IE7. I have been bad about upgrading my browser so I currently still have the gap on my home pc.
My husband mentioned to me awhile back (if I remember correctly) it had something to do with a header mark in css that was causing the issue, saying that specifying the width and height of an image should fix the issue.
I don’t know if that info helps, but maybe it will.
Thanks for all the work you do BD,
Shann~
I only had errors couple of times while BD was still working on it. Since then I have no problem.
Oh Shann, that is horrible. Please upgrade to at least IE7. I am not sure what a 'header mark' is, but I will try and find out. I will double check all images in the css to see if they all have size attributes. Roy, if this is what you are seeing, I cannot believe you stuck with us!! I appreciate your patience.
I also believe that the drop-down links are now working on the home page and throughout the site. For some reason, I lost the code for my tag search in the drop-down. I will have to fix that, but I wanted to get the other menus working. I made that band smaller so it would take up less space too. I hope this helps!
Cheers,
